Shopify product data monitoring, based on your own rules
Supplier files, PIM and ERP integrations, bulk edits and day-to-day changes can leave a field empty even when a product page, filter or feed relies on it. The required data differs from store to store. A generic catalog score cannot define those requirements for your business.
SpecFinch lets you define the fields your catalog needs and checks for missing values. You decide what to review and make any corrections in Shopify. The app reads product data without rewriting it.
Define the required fields for your Shopify catalog
Create up to ten data contracts for all active products, selected product types or collections. Mark built-in product fields, variant fields and existing metafields as required within each contract. Your rules describe the data your team expects to be present.
For example, a store might require a material metafield for a product group because its filters depend on that value. A later import that leaves that field empty can then produce a finding against that specific rule.
Check missing SKUs and barcodes after a Shopify import
An import can leave a variant SKU or barcode empty while the product still appears in your catalog. Make these fields required only for the products that need them. After a successful follow-up scan, investigate newly missing values through the finding’s Shopify product link.
SpecFinch checks whether required values are present. It does not verify GTIN authenticity, check barcode ownership or certify a product feed. A non-empty value can still be wrong.
For a one-off review, a Shopify product CSV can help you inspect SKU and barcode columns. Recurring rule-based scans are useful when the same requirements need checking after each change. See the step-by-step product data guide for a manual workflow and the limits of product CSVs.
Keep new missing fields separate from existing cleanup
The first completed full scan establishes a baseline. Existing gaps remain visible as cleanup work. Later successful scans distinguish newly missing, returned, worsened and resolved findings. This gives your team a way to review changes without treating the same old backlog as a new problem every day.
Daily full scans and a manual scan option support regular checks. Filterable findings, scan history, direct links to Shopify products and CSV exports help you investigate. An optional email digest reports relevant changes.
Who is SpecFinch for?
SpecFinch fits Shopify teams that manage a changing catalog through several people or systems and already know which fields their storefront or downstream processes require. It is useful when the question is: “What required product data has gone missing since our last successful check?”
It does not write descriptions, fill metafields or decide which values are correct. Complete data can support product pages, filters and feeds, but the app does not guarantee search rankings, conversion or revenue.
Questions about SpecFinch
Does SpecFinch change my products or metafields?
No. SpecFinch uses product read access. It identifies missing required data; your team reviews the findings and makes any corrections in Shopify.
Can I monitor Shopify metafields?
Yes. Existing product and variant metafields can be marked as required in a data contract, alongside supported built-in fields. SpecFinch checks whether required data is present.
Does SpecFinch validate barcodes or fix missing SKUs?
It can check that a required SKU or barcode is present. It does not validate GTIN authenticity, create identifiers or edit your data. Review the value with the responsible supplier or team.
What happens to issues that existed before installation?
The first completed full scan records them in the baseline. They remain available as existing cleanup work, separate from changes detected in later successful scans.
Can I export findings for my team?
Yes. Findings are filterable and can be exported as CSV. Scan history and direct product links provide context for follow-up work.
Is the app available in English?
Yes. SpecFinch’s interface is in English. Installation, current pricing and trial details are available in the Shopify App Store.
